Tapstry, Jacques Douchez

Flat tapestry, created by the artist JACQUES DOUCHEZ (1921, France / 2012, Brazil) and executed in wool on the handloom by ATELIER DOUCHEZ-NICOLA (1959-1980), according to the label entitled "AGUAPÉ" (water hyacinth). This artistic tapestry participated in the "1st Panorama of Current Brazilian Art" held at MAM-SP in 1969 and is cataloged in this exhibition among four other works by the artist that were part of it. Jacques Douchez was one of the most important artists in Brazil of the movement generated by ATELIER ABSTRAÇÃO by Samsom Flexor (Soroca, Republic Moldova 1907 - São Paulo, Brazil 1971). His biography and chronology are in the book ARTISTAS DA TAPEÇARIA MODERNA - edited by the gallery PASSADO COMPOSTO SÉCULO XX in 2012, on the occasion of the exhibition curated by Alejandra Muñoz and presentation text by Graça Bueno.
