    Tapestry , Magdalena Abakanowicz


    Helena

    interlacing threads and system of nodes, in diverse materials: wool, silk, horsehair and cotton ropes. It is named "Helena", created in the period of 1964-1965, by the artist Magdalena Abakanowicz (Falenty, Poland, 1930 – Warsaw, Poland, 2017), it took part of the "VIII Biennial of São Paulo", in 1965. In this biennial, Magdalena received a gold medal for her work, which had five tapestries, including the "Helena" one, in the Section of Applied - Art Tapestries, with the Polish group, these five tapestries also participated in an exhibition in the Museum of Modern Art in the state of Rio de Janeiro in 1966. Magdalena was one of the leading representative of the Polish Tapestry school and was instrumental in the New Tapestry movement in the world. Magdalena was still active working successfully as an internationally renowned contemporary sculptor; her historical and contemporary works are in the best museums and in private collections of the whole world.
